Liverpool Golf Club – Round 4, 2017

  • June 8, 2017

Round 4 of the RMYC Port Hacking Golf Club saw twenty seven golfers tee-up at picturesque Liverpool Golf Club. The greens were dewy in cool early morning, especially down at the Georges River end of the course. The greens quickened faster as the day warmed.

Mike Barlow, our 2016 Golf Club Champion presented the individual winner on the day, to our esteemed RMYC Golf Club President and mentor to Dax, Vic Raco.

RacoWinner

On this challenging championship course, Vic Raco really stood tall, hitting the ball with precision timing, like a well oiled machine, and mechanically racking-up 41 Stableford points. Vic was in top touch on both the greens as well as the fairways, with the longest drive on the 13th. An excellent round but handicap-wise, it may cost Raco who is current in second place overall in his quest for 2017 Club Champion.

Individual runner-up was Dennis Klein, who in a accurately calculated round finished right-on his handicap number with 36 Stableford points. Dennis teamed-up with Telstra’s number one mobile customer in The Shire, Bruce Crosby to narrowly win the 4 Ball Best Ball.

ZUCHDAX2

Inspired by his respected mentor Vic Raco, Dax De Traubenberg had nearest-the-pin on the 4th and partnered with in-form and overall 2017 Golf Championship points leader, Andrew Zuschmann, to be unlucky runners-up on a count-back in the 4 Ball Best Ball.

Longest drives of the day were recorded by the consistent Damian McGuirk who is 3rd overall in the 2017 Golf Championship and Vic Raco in A Grade. And in B Grade by Ian Hillman and bouncing back from his last round winning the Don, Bruce Crosby.

PeteDowsett

In an extraordinary and unprecedented, controversial post-game luncheon performance Peter Dowsett raised his hand and challenged the longest drive result.

Pete vehemently disagreed lodging a protest on the longest drive result. Pete Dowsett passionately argued that he clearly, unquestionably, out-drove Dammo, Hillman and Crosby, by first driving 26kms to the Eastlakes Golf Course before consulting his calendar and then, on the advice of Siri and under her “fastest route” direction option, driving the 34kms to Liverpool Golf Course, total kilometres 60 protested Pete !

At the luncheon, Pete’s impassioned longest drive protest was thoughtfully considered and it was technically acknowledged, yep a “fairway” to drive Pete. But after sober consideration Pete’s protest was given a sympathetically thoughtful and respectful, thumbs-down dismissal.

ThumbsDown

McWilliam

Attracting comments from all the golfers was the stunningly attired standout winner of the golf fashion stakes at Liverpool, Graham McWilliam. Inspired by the Liverpool Golf Club venue, Graham thoroughly searched his wardrobe choosing to match a sporting combination of Liverpool FC, Anfield, Merseyside, pink, teamed with a sun-comfortably faded, eye-catching, post-blush of success red, in keeping with St George’s recent premiership performances.

Nearest the pin on the 14th hole and currently 5th in contention for the 2017 Golf Championship, Graham McAlpine.
