Round 9, Beverley Park Golf Club

  • November 8, 2017

Round 9 of the RMYC Port Hacking Golf Club was played at the Beverley Park Golf Club, Kogarah.

In showery, wet conditions 27 hardy golfers, assembled outside the Beverley Park pro-shop, iPhones in hand, checking the BoM weather radar. “Thunder storms and showers off the coast”.

IMG_5527Top of the leaderboard, and firming odds-on favourite for the 2017 Club Championship, Bruce Crosby, keen to hold his lead, interpreted the forecast. “It’ll be a miserably wet round and possibly unsafe” … and advocating for a cancellation of play.

So convincing was Bruce’s weather forecast that Bob Lay registered a last minute withdrawal.

Despite Bruce Crosby’s “miserably wet” forecast, RMYC Golf Club President Vic Raco briefed the assembled golfers and bravely instructed them to proceed to their allotted tees. The remaining 26 golfers, minus a dry Bob Lay, teed-off on the 1st and 10th holes. After three holes the wind driven showers stopped and after 7 holes Beverley Park golf course was bathed in sunshine.

Competition was tight on the re-constructed, drainage enhanced Beverley Park course for the second last round of the 2017 RMYC Golf Club Championship. Eleven golfers scored 36 or more stableford points.

Adding to his ever growing collection of red hats, Al Wardle was winner of The Don with 17 points. Obviously not a wet tracker.

Post golf luncheon at the RMYC Port Hacking saw many golfers fined for self inflicted misdemeanours, raising in total $670 towards the Club’s annual McGrath Foundation Pink October.

In total the RMYC Port Hacking raised $13,870. Later in the evening a cheque was presented to Glenn McGrath. Well done all members. Thank you for your continued generosity.
